Everyone knows Twitter is a great tool and resource
for folks looking to network with like minds, and build awareness for themselves and or brand(s). Many celebrities have jumped on the Twitter train recently; most of whom lack the ingenuity required to engage and maintain their followers. As of late, I have been most impressed with how Ryan Leslie has put this social network site to work for him. With just $100 Leslie took the #followfriday trend (users make posts like ‘#followfriday@MsBlckSummer’ to recommend other users they feel are worth following) and built a marketing contest around it. By following a set of rules, one winner would pocket the money by simply being the first to gain 25 new followers for Ryan. Thanks to the winner @fueledbyaaron and other participants, the spiff was such a success that Leslie plans on continuing this twist to #followfridays. Is this the prelude to a dying PR industry? I think not. But, it is a very unique way to use Twitter in real life.
